AbstractRecently, practices have begun integrating cell‐free DNA‐based noninvasive prenatal screening as a screening option for a variety of genetic conditions. According to the National Society of Genetic Counselors, the integration of cfDNA screening into clinical prenatal practice may “significantly shift the paradigm of prenatal testing and screening for all women.” The purpose of this study was to determine whether group information sessions can feasibly serve as an alternative to extended one‐on‐one genetic counseling for the increasing number of women making decisions about prenatal testing and screening. This study assessed the effect of group genetic information sessions coupled with abbreviated counseling on pregnant women's knowledge about and attitudes toward prenatal testing and screening.

AbstractIntroductionWe sought to assess the individual and combined contribution of limbic and neocortical α‐synuclein, tau, and amyloid β (Aβ) to duration of illness in dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB).MethodsQuantitative digital pathology of limbic and neocortical α‐synuclein, tau, and Aβ was assessed in 49 patients with clinically probable DLB. Regression modeling examined the unique and shared contribution of each pathology to the variance of illness duration.ResultsPatients with diffuse Lewy body disease had more severe pathology of each type and a shorter duration of illness than individuals with transitional Lewy body disease. The three pathologies accounted for 25% of the total variance of duration of illness, with 19% accounted for by α‐synuclein alone or in combination with tau and Aβ. When the diffuse Lewy body disease group was examined separately, α‐synuclein deposition significantly exceeded that of tau and Aβ. In this model, 20% of 24% total variance in the model for duration of illness was accounted for independently by α‐synuclein.DiscussionIn DLB, α‐synuclein is an important predictor of disease duration, both independently and synergistically with tau and Aβ.

Objective: The primary objective was to conduct a meta-analysis on published observational cohort data describing the association between acetyl-salicylic acid (aspirin) use prior to the onset of sepsis and mortality in hospitalized patients. Study Selection: Studies that reported mortality in patients on aspirin with sepsis with a comparison group of patients with sepsis not on prior aspirin therapy were included. Data Sources: Fifteen studies described hospital-based cohorts (n = 17,065), whereas one was a large insurance-based database (n = 683,421). Individual-level patient data were incorporated from all selected studies. Data Extraction: Propensity analyses with 1:1 propensity score matching at the study level were performed, using the most consistently available covariates judged to be associated with aspirin. Meta-analyses were performed to estimate the pooled average treatment effect of aspirin on sepsis-related mortality. Data Synthesis: Use of aspirin was associated with a 7% (95% CI, 2–12%; p = 0.005) reduction in the risk of death as shown by meta-analysis with considerable statistical heterogeneity (I 2 = 61.6%). Conclusions: These results are consistent with effects ranging from a 2% to 12% reduction in mortality risk in patients taking aspirin prior to sepsis onset. This association anticipates results of definitive studies of the use of low-dose aspirin as a strategy for reduction of deaths in patients with sepsis.

Purpose To describe a model‐based reconstruction strategy for single‐shot echo planar imaging (EPI) that intrinsically accounts for k‐space nonuniformity, Nyquist ghosting, and geometric distortions during rather than before or after image reconstruction. Methods Ramp sampling and inhomogeneous B0 field‐induced distortion cause the EPI samples to lie on a non‐Cartesian grid, thus requiring the nonuniform fast Fourier transform. Additionally, a 2D Nyquist ghost phase correction without the need for extra navigator acquisition is included in the proposed reconstruction. Coil compression is also incorporated to reduce the computational load. The proposed method is applied to phantom and human brain MRI data. Results The results demonstrate that Nyquist ghosting and geometric distortions are reduced by the proposed reconstruction. The proposed 2D phase correction is superior to a conventional 1D correction. The reductions of both artifacts lead to improved temporal signal‐to‐noise ratio (tSNR). The virtual coil results suggest that the processing time can be reduced by up to 75%, with a mean tSNR loss of only 3.2% when using 8‐virtual instead of 32‐physical coils for twofold undersampled data. Conclusion The proposed reconstruction improves the quality (ghosting, geometry, and tSNR) of EPI without requiring calibration data for Nyquist ghost correction.
